Mercy Kenya was approved as a province at Chapter 2000. The Vice-Province had been formed in 1994 at the First Congregational Chapter of the Sisters of Mercy of Ireland and South Africa. It was attached to the South-Central Province (Ireland) by the Central Leadership Team. The first leadership team for Kenya was elected at the Vice-Provincial Chapter in 1995.

The first two Kenyan sisters made perpetual profession in 1986.
