The Proof of Love is Deed

This beautiful new publication from St. Leo's College, Carlow was launched at the recent McAuley Lecture held at the school.

Entitled, 'The Proof of Love is Deed' it gives the history of the Sisters of Mercy and of St. Leo's College.  St. Leo's was the first Convent of Mercy built as a convent by the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, Catherine McAuley and she spent a month in Carlow when the house was opened.  St. Leo's school was the first 'Pension School' set up by the young Congregation at the time.

The brainchild of Ms. Mairead Redmond who teaches in the school, this publication is aimed at all members of the school community - past, present and future.

Contributors to the book include:

Sisters of Mercy - Srs. Sheila Carney, Aine Barrins, Mary C. Sullivan and Brenda Dolphin.

Other contibutors are Dr. Anne Looney, David Touhy S.J., John Lonergan and Fr. Peter McVerry S.J..

Former St. Leo's School Principal Sr. Kathleen Kennedy has written for the book, as has the current Principal Clare Ryan.  Sr. Stanislaus Kennedy also contributed, as did Anne Kelleher, former CEO of CEIST (Christian Education An Irish Schools Trust).

This book features the magnificant St. Leo's tapestry created by the students and teachers and gives a step by step account in words and pictures, of the creation of the tapestry.
