Nuu
From an early stage the Sisters wee involved in health care in Nuu. In
recent years an outreach primary health care project was discontinued
and there was no sister nurse in Nuu. The clinic is said to be ‘diocesan’
and was run by a lay nurse. A volunteer priest from Dublin got funds with
which he extended the clinic. In recent past administrative problems surfaced
and it was threatened with closure by the Diocese.
The sister in Nuu sees her role as a supportive one, and she also visits
the sick in the local community, especially AIDS or other terminally ill
patients.
Nuu is very remote with poor roads and transport facilities. The seriously
ill face many problems in getting help. Poverty is rife and funds from
the Diocese are totally lacking. The future of the clinic is uncertain.
