Sister Deirdre Mullan attended the launch and opening of the International Day of the Girl -Child on Thursday October 11th 2012, held at the Office of the President of the General Assembly.

Deirdre said that this was a significant moment for her as a Sister of Mercy, given that the protection of the women and girls was the main focus for Catherine McAuley.

The day was dedicated to Malala Yousafzai, the 14 year old girl from Pakistan who was attacked by the Taliban for promoting the rights of Girls to attend school. Deirdre's next Booklet due out later this month focuses on the importance of Education as a tool to move people out of poverty.  The booklet is dedicated to Malala.
