I am Felistas Kingori from Gilgil, Kenya. The location of the Novitiate is where I grew up and my family only moved out about five years ago. While here, I feel so much at home in the environment and in my new community! I am the fourth born in a family of five girls. I first met the Sisters of Mercy in Eldama Ravine, where 1 went for my high school education. While there, I admired the apostolic work in which the sisters were involved in school and in the hospital. Though I worked in close association with other Religious Congregations, I was still attracted to the Sisters of Mercy. I am a first year novice. |

I am Lilian Awuor Sewe aged 25 years from a family of eight i.e. two boys and six girls, being the fifth born.I come from Western part of Kenya. Even though my family is non-catholic, I got a chance to be become catholic and at the age of 13. I was baptised and confirmed. I started feeling a desire to join religious life but did not know the channel to follow. At the age of 18 I still felt the persistent desire; however I decided to involve myself in volunteer work with youth and those suffering from Aids. I saw the needs of the poor and decided to follow my initial desire. I first met the Sisters of Mercy at a meeting with vocation promoters in our archdiocese. My first attraction to Mercy was Catherine's words 'THE POOR NEED HELP TODAY,NOT NEXT WEEK’ These words remained with me in my aspirancy programme in a slum area in Nairobi and with the help of the Sisters of Mercy vocation promoter I was and still am prompted to continue on my journey of discernment |

Esther LopeyokEjoka (Hello in Turkana). My name is Esther Lopeyok and I come from Lodwar Diocese, north eastern Kenya. I am third born in a family of six. Having completed my Form Four examination in 1995 at Kakuma Girls Secondary School run by the Sisters of Mercy (England), I started my nurses training in Ortum, West Pokot. After my training I worked for one year with the Sisters of Mercy in Lodwar. In February 2002, I joined the formation programme in Miguta. At present I am a candidate in Ngarariga. Lodwar is a semi-arid region covered in sand and rocks most of the year, where even the goats find it difficult to survive. Most people here are pastoralists and the men of the family move with the animals in search of food. My people believe that the place God has placed them is special, so even though they have a lot of hardship, they still thank God. |

Anne MukeliMwiaseo (Hello in Kikamba). My name is Anne Mukeli from Ikalaasa, Machakos, Eastern Kenya. I am sixth born in a family of eleven. Having completed my Form Four examination in 1996, I attended Tala secretarial college in Machakos. Afterwards, I worked with an advocate in Nairobi for two years. The seed of Mercy was sown in me through the Sisters of Mercy, Makueni. I joined the pre-candidacy programme in Miguta in 2002 and I am now a candidate in Ngarariga. Machakos has a hot climate but we get sufficient rain to grow cereals, maize, beans, peas etc. If you want nice juicy mangos, pawpaws and oranges, come to Machakos. Most of my holiday time from school was spent helping my mother in the garden so as to earn school fees for the coming term. Our new government introduced free primary education this year but it will take time to have it at secondary level. |
